The Iron Dragon is the mobile version of my console workstation. He might be a little guy, but he packs a lot of power. A solid gigahert clock spins Pentium III CPU. 256 MBs of RAM and 20 GB hard drive, this system it powerful enough to by a console by itself. The Iron Dragon is equipped with 15" TFT LCD screen capable of 1400x1050 resolution with it's NVIDIA GeForce2 Go and makes for a very acceptable workstation when not at the Black Dragon. The Iron Dragon accompanies me just about everywhere. Many of the sites hosted here were created on the laptop while attempting to deplete the never empty coffee cup at some local restaurant, or while +20,000 feet in the air in route to wherever work wants me next. During trips, the Iron Dragon helps keep things on course with map software and keep the driver (me) awake by making sure the speakers are always filled with music. I have even permanently installed an 120 volt AC inverter in my vehicle so the Iron Dragon can operate non-stop or charge up after a long session of coffee consumption. In the Dragon's Lair, the Iron Dragon has a permently reserved spot on the bench, outfitted with power and network conections. File synchronization is usually performed each day before leaving. Through out the house are network conections so that wherever one is with a computer, they can jump on the network. When not sitting in the Dragon's Lair, the Iron Dragon can be found on sitting on Andrew's lap while watching a movie or History, Discovery, the Learning Channel or sometimes, the news. Often, during a muted commercial break, I will lookup the subject being discussed on the internet and find out more. TV and the internet are great ways to learn if you know how to use them. Unforchently, many people are more interested in the massive amounts of meaningless junk you can find on both TV and the internet. |
